We are excited to receive so many questions about our new Rosebery school, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. Here Bernard Ryan, the Foundation Principal, answers some of your burning questions.

When will St Joseph’s open?

Our new Rosebery primary school will open in 2023 with two Kindergarten classes. In Terms 1-3, classes will be hosted offsite at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College Kensington. Sydney Catholic Schools will provide a daily shuttle service from Rosebery to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College (OLSH) to transport students safely to and from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. There will also be before and after school care available on-site at OLSH in Terms 1-3 and on-site at Rosebery in Term 4.

What will the school and its classrooms look like?

St Joseph’s will boast contemporary, flexible and multi-use learning spaces, giving students the opportunity to work as a whole class, in small groups or to engage in more personalised learning. The school will also have large, outdoor learning and play areas, together with a multi-purpose hall.

What programs will be offered at St Joseph’s?

As well as offering excellence in teaching across all key learning areas, St Joseph’s will also have specialised teachers in music, sport and languages.

Students will be able to take part in Sydney Catholic Schools’ ground-breaking Amadeus Music Education Program, offering students in Year 3 to 8 classroom music lessons, ensemble lessons and small group tuition, as well as an orchestral instrument to take home to practise. And they will enjoy what’s on offer as part of SCS’ all-ages, all-abilities program of sports in both competitive and non-competitive settings.

How can I get involved in the St Joseph’s school or parish community?

We encourage parents and our wider community to register for our community newsletter by completing this Expression of Interest form. It will contain updates on our school and parish and the wider Sydney Catholic Schools’ community. Although our school is still in its building phase, you may wish to join us for school masses at St Joseph’s Catholic Church Rosebery where you can meet and mingle with local families.

What preschool/daycare and before and after school care options, if any, will the school have?

The school neighbours a long daycare and preschool, run by Sydney Catholic Early Childhood Services, which will provide a Preschool to Year 6 (P-6) learning precinct at St Joseph’s. The school itself will also offer onsite before and after school care, run by an external organisation and facilitated on school grounds in our multi-purpose hall. While we are at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College, onsite before and after school care will be offered there.

How do I enrol my child in the new school?

I would love to speak to any prospective parents about our vision, our mission, our values and all the things we’ll provide for their children. They can contact the school office on (02) 9184 6630 and speak directly to me or my assistant, Anne Korazija, and we will be happy to answer any questions.

Can I speak to the Foundation Principal in person?

Yes, please phone me on (02) 9184 6630 to make an appointment. I look forward to meeting each and every family in person. We now have a site office on the Rosebery school site at 76 Rosebery Avenue, Rosebery, where I will be conducting all our pre-enrolment Kindergarten interviews.

Where can I find out more information about St Joseph’s including how to enrol?

We have information available on various platforms: Our Rosebery quarterly newsletter, our new school website, Facebook and Instagram pages. Alternatively, please feel free to call me directly on (02) 9184 6630 and I will do my best to answer your questions.

I understand the building works have been delayed due to supply issues. How can I stay updated on the progress of the new school?

You can stay up to date by visiting our new school website, Facebook and Instagram pages. You can also register for our quarterly newsletter by completing an Expression of Interest form.
